Coravin World Tour: A Taste of Fine Wine.
This September, wine enthusiasts in the Netherlands and around the world have a unique opportunity to indulge in some of the finest wines, served by the glass, at select venues. The Coravin World Tour, an international campaign designed to celebrate and share premium wines, has arrived. This month-long event features a curated selection of exquisite wines offered by the glass at top-tier wine bars, including Oocker Amsterdam and NOTK Rotterdam.
A Global Celebration of Fine Wine
The Coravin World Tour is a celebration of wine culture, designed to bring the world’s best wines directly to consumers, one glass at a time. This event spans multiple countries and invites wine lovers to experience rare and exceptional wines, without the need to commit to purchasing an entire bottle. By partnering with some of the finest wine bars globally, Coravin ensures that each glass poured is a true representation of quality and craftsmanship.
In the Netherlands, the tour makes stops at ‘Oocker’ in Amsterdam and ‘NOTK’ in Rotterdam—two venues renowned for their exquisite wine selections and sophisticated atmospheres. Throughout September, patrons can explore a diverse range of premium wines, each carefully selected to highlight the unique characteristics of its region and winemaking tradition. From robust reds to delicate whites, the Coravin World Tour offers a rare opportunity to taste wines that might otherwise be out of reach.
The Value of Coravin’s Wine Preservation System
Central to this global campaign is Coravin’s innovative wine preservation system, a game-changer for wine enthusiasts who appreciate fine wine but prefer to savor it over time. The Coravin system allows wine to be poured without removing the cork, thereby preserving the remaining wine for weeks, months, or even years.
For those who enjoy rare and expensive wines, this technology is invaluable. It allows wine connoisseurs to explore a wide variety of wines without the pressure of finishing a bottle in one sitting. Whether you’re tasting an old vintage Bordeaux or a fresh, aromatic Riesling, Coravin ensures that each glass is as perfect as the first, every time.
The preservation system works by inserting a thin needle through the cork, extracting the desired amount of wine while simultaneously replacing the displaced wine with argon gas. Argon, an inert gas, prevents oxidation and keeps the wine fresh. This technology not only revolutionizes how wine is consumed at home but also enables wine bars to offer an extensive by-the-glass selection of rare and expensive wines, as showcased in the Coravin World Tour.

Our Visit to Oocker: A Journey Through Fine Wine
As part of our participation in the Coravin World Tour, we visited Oocker in Amsterdam, where we had the pleasure of tasting a selection of exceptional wines. Each glass offered a unique glimpse into the winemaker’s craft, revealing the nuanced expressions of different regions and varietals. Here are our impressions of the wines we sampled:
Frederic Savart | L’Ouverture Premier Cru Champagne
This Champagne was a revelation, offering a vibrant and lively palate with a fine mousse. The nose was rich with aromas of green apple, pear, and a hint of brioche. On the palate, it delivered a crisp acidity balanced by subtle notes of citrus and toast, leading to a long, refreshing finish. A perfect start to our tasting journey.
Charles Lachaux | Champs D’Argent 2021 Aligoté
The Champs D’Argent Aligoté was a delightful surprise, showcasing the potential of this often-overlooked varietal. The wine was fresh and zesty, with a bright acidity that complemented its flavors of green apple, lemon zest, and a touch of salinity. The minerality on the finish added a layer of complexity, making this a truly memorable Aligoté.
Arnaud Tessier | Meursault 1er Cru Charmes Dessus 2016
A standout among the whites, this Meursault 1er Cru was everything one could hope for in a top-tier Burgundy. The nose was rich with notes of ripe stone fruits, hazelnuts, and a subtle hint of vanilla. On the palate, the wine was creamy yet precise, with layers of peach, apricot, and a touch of citrus balanced by a fine acidity. The finish was long and elegant, leaving a lasting impression of its impeccable balance.
Domaine Fourrier | Morey-Saint-Denis Clos Solon 2022
This Pinot Noir from Domaine Fourrier was a masterclass in finesse and elegance. The bouquet was filled with red cherries, raspberries, and a hint of earthiness. On the palate, the wine was silky smooth, with delicate tannins supporting flavors of fresh red fruit, subtle spice, and a whisper of oak. The finish was pure and refined, showcasing the wine’s balance and precision.
Clos Rougeard | Le Clos 2018
A true gem from the Loire Valley, Le Clos 2018 was a powerful yet refined expression of Cabernet Franc. The nose was intense, with aromas of blackberries, blackcurrants, and a touch of graphite. On the palate, the wine was rich and full-bodied, with firm tannins and layers of dark fruit, herbs, and a hint of smoky minerality. The finish was long and persistent, highlighting the wine’s depth and structure.
Jamet | Cote Rôtie 2017
The Cote Rôtie from Jamet was a stunning example of Northern Rhône Syrah at its best. The nose was complex, with notes of black pepper, violets, and dark berries. On the palate, the wine was rich and concentrated, with flavors of blackberry, plum, and a touch of olive tapenade. The tannins were firm yet refined, and the finish was long, with a lingering spiciness that added to its overall complexity.
Egon Müller | Scharzhofberger Auslese 2014
We concluded our tasting with this exquisite Riesling from Egon Müller. The Scharzhofberger Auslese was a symphony of sweetness and acidity, with a bouquet of ripe peach, apricot, and honeyed citrus. On the palate, the wine was luscious and opulent, with a beautifully balanced sweetness offset by a vibrant acidity. The finish was long and persistent, leaving a lingering note of honeyed fruit and minerality.
