Rosso Piceno Sté 2021 – Cantina Santa Barbara.
Italian blends, there is a wide array of them and for red Sangiovese plays a star role in a lot of variants. In the Piceno appellation (located in Italy’s Marche) it is custom to blend Sangiovese with another Italian variety; Montepulciano. An example of which is this Rosso Piceno “Sté” by Cantina Santa Barbara.
About the Winery
The Santa Barbara winery is owned by Stefano Antonucci and lies in the town of Barbara in the heart of Italy’s Marche region. From the start of its activity, the winery had two aims: to revive indigenous grape varieties, Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi, Montepulciano and Lacrima di Morro d’Alba in order to create wines that appeal to international taste.
With vineyards between 25 and 40 years old the estate covers an area of 45 hectares of land, stretching from the rolling hills of Barbara, across Serra de Conti, Montecarotto, Arcevia up to Morro D’Alba and Cupramontana. The particularity of these areas lies in the clay and water-rich soils that cover on a strip of land bordered by the Adriatic Sea to the East and the Apennines to the west.
About the Wine
The wine 2021 Rosso Piceno Sté is fermented in stainless steel and has a clear ruby red colour, with a nose that centers around red fruit and spices. This is a well-balanced marriage of the two grape varieties. On the palette Sangiovese delivers the fruit and recognisable acidity, Montepulciano adds spices, body and structure. Smooth wine with a surprisingly persistent and pleasant aftertaste.
In conclusion: Can be enjoyed chilled and is ready to go as she is. Easy drinking and a great companion for pasta and light fish dishes.
