2023 Ambassadorship D.O. Ribera del Duero

2023 Ambassadorship D.O. Ribera del Duero.

Spanish D.O. (Denominación de Origen) Ribera del Duero has assigned Dutch Wine Apprentice, in particular its founder Niels Aarts, as one of their 2023 Ambassadors in the Netherlands.

This great honor is given to three wine writers in the Netherlands, who will represent the Spanish wine region online and at various events throughout this year. Niels will be accompanied by Nadien de Visser (Le Club des Vins) and Esther Groenewoud (Wijntjes met Esther).

2023 Ambassadorship

As part of the Ambassadorship Niels will bring Ribera del Duero wines to the attention by sharing knowledge and experiences on the Dutch Wine Apprentice website and social media channels. In this role he will highlight various topics such as the versatility of the wines, the various styles, the unique terroir and the gastronomic character. In addition, he will travel to the region next June to complete the experience.

DWA’s Niels Aarts on his new appointment:

The wines from Ribera del Duero are well represented in our wine collection, and form a favorite subject on our platform. The beautiful development of this region in the past 10 years has resulted in a great range of good wineries and top wines. Fresh and fruity wines, with elegance but certainly also with character. It is therefore an honor to be chosen as ambassador for this beautiful Spanish region.

About Ribera del Duero

Ribera del Duero is one of the well-known wine regions of Spain with a high reputation. The wine-growing area covers more than 26,000 hectares, has 311 winemakers, nearly 8,000 grape growers and is located in the heart of north-central Spain, 120 kilometers above Madrid. The wines owe their character to the high location of the vineyards on the banks of the river Duero, relatively close to the Atlantic Ocean. The vineyards are located at 720 to more than 1,000 meters above sea level and there is an extreme climate with very hot summers and freezing winters; three months of winter and nine months of sunshine. The difference between day and night temperatures is huge. As a result, the grapes develop full and complex aromas. The wines from Ribera del Duero D.O. are distinguished by their high quality, limited production and innovative dedication.

We are honored and thankful for this opportunity and will tell you more about our plans to promote this beautiful Spanish wine region in our upcoming publications.

To learn more about Ribera del Duero you can visit their English or Dutch website. This campaign is managed by Pitch P.R. in cooperation with the D.O.
