Grape Masters S02E06 – Champagne Billecart-Salmon, Champagne.

We are proud to present the Sixth and Final Episode of Season 2 of Grape Masters, featuring one of Champagne’s most historic and beloved maisons: Champagne Billecart-Salmon.

In this special season finale, we travel to Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, in the heart of Champagne, to meet Mathieu Rolland-Billecart—seventh-generation family member and current leader of Champagne Billecart-Salmon. For more than two centuries, this family-run house has built a reputation for finesse, precision, and timeless elegance.

Mathieu shares his personal journey of stepping into the role of guardian of the family legacy, while balancing heritage with innovation. From the story of the house’s 1818 founding through generations of reinvention, we uncover how Billecart-Salmon continues to thrive as an independent producer in a landscape dominated by global corporations.

Together, we taste two emblematic cuvées—the Brut Réserve and the newly released Nicolas François 2012—and explore what defines the house’s unmistakable style: freshness, refinement, and wines designed to bring pure pleasure at the table.

Highlights from the Episode

  • Seven Generations of Family Stewardship – How Billecart-Salmon remains family-owned and family-run after more than 200 years.
  • Innovation and Tradition – From pioneering cold fermentation to shaping the modern Champagne bottle.
  • The Soul of Brut Réserve – A cuvée that blends 15 vintages and embodies the house’s savoir-faire.
  • A Tribute to Legacy – The Nicolas François 2012, honoring the house’s founder, as a prestige cuvée built to endure.
  • Champagne and Gastronomy – Why chefs and sommeliers remain at the heart of Billecart-Salmon’s global success.

Champagne with a Family Soul

For Billecart-Salmon, Champagne is more than wine—it is a vessel for joy, memories, and moments shared. Whether you are a longtime admirer of the maison or just discovering its timeless style, this is an episode not to be missed.
